Communications Specialist | Philanthropic Org | 4 months+ | Hybrid in NYC
We are looking for an Communications Specialist for an approximately 4 months long temporary position with our client. The role is Monday-Friday, and 35 hours per week. The role is hybrid and all employees must be able to work onsite in Manhattan 3 days per week.
Our client is a philanthropic organization that works towards social change. This role supports the busy Communications Department. All candidates must have at least 3 years of professional experience in a multifaceted comms role working with web, social, and email (not someone who was “just” a social media manager, for example). (Can be non-profit or for-profit experience.)
This is a temporary position to help while the organization hires for a permanent role. This is not a temp-to-perm assignment, but the selected candidate could apply and would go through the full recruitment process.
Responsibilities:
•Draft and post content for social media (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook)
•Monitor social media messages and reply/forward
•Engage with other social media accounts through relevant reactions and shares daily
•Research and draft grantee profiles, news items, and other updates for website as assigned
•Proofread texts for the website, social media, and other platforms
•Source and edit photos to specs for the website, social media, and other digital platforms
•Liaise with website development consultants and communications director to identify, report, track, and test needed enhancements to the website to fix bugs, streamline workflows, improve user experience, and maintain the integrity of the website
•Build promotional and engagement email campaigns and manage contact lists and segmentation
•Manage the communications@ inbox and ensure that all emails receive a relevant and accurate response, are forwarded to the appropriate staff member, or are deleted
•Digest into the Photo Library and apply metadata (collectively, “catalog”) new photos with relevant and accurate detail, in accordance with our photo library guidelines
Qualifications:
•At least 3 years of professional experience in a multifaceted comms role (web, social, email—not someone who was “just” social media manager, for example). (Can be non-profit or for-profit experience.)
•Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) and basic HTML.
•Deep knowledge of and continued learning about evolving social media trends and best practices
•Familiarity with core concepts of brand theory/strategy
•Excellent writing and editing abilities
Technology: MS Office and Teams. Box. SharePoint. Social Media (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook). Photo editing software – mostly Canva, but some Adobe Photoshop. Mailchimp for email campaigns. Website runs on Drupal CMS. Trello.
Compensation: $28-$30/hr
