Vice President of People | Hybrid role in NYC | Food Importer
We are looking for a Vice President of People for a hybrid role in New York City. (Required to be onsite 4 days per week.)
Our client is an international specialty food importer and manufacturer and this role manages the day-to-day HR operations and also leads HR strategy for the organization. They have a dynamic and collaborative HR team in place and are looking for a strong leader as the current person retires.
Overview
An established and growing organization is seeking an experienced Human Resources leader to shape and elevate its people strategy. This role will serve as a key member of the leadership team, guiding HR strategy, culture, and operations to support business growth and long-term success. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, passionate about fostering a high-performance, people-first culture.
Responsibilities
Oversee all areas of human resources, including compliance, talent acquisition, total rewards, benefits, learning and development, employee relations, DE&I, and culture and engagement initiatives.
Provide strategic leadership by designing and executing long-term people strategies aligned with business goals, including defining KPIs and assessing organizational effectiveness.
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing HR team that models accountability, continuous learning, and professional excellence.
Design and implement scalable HR systems and programs encompassing compensation, benefits, performance management, and career development.
Serve as a trusted advisor to executives and managers, offering guidance on employee relations and leadership effectiveness.
Champion a positive, inclusive, and engaged workplace culture through initiatives centered on belonging, mental wellness, leadership growth, and recognition.
Establish feedback mechanisms and leverage data insights to evolve people strategies and enhance employee experience.
Develop and manage the HR budget, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to meet organizational priorities.
Lead special projects and strategic initiatives that drive transformation and business impact.
Demonstrate agility, urgency, and proactive leadership in advancing organizational and people initiatives.
Qualifications
Exceptional communication, executive presence, and influencing skills.
Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution abilities.
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, execution, and change management.
Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
Comprehensive understanding of HR disciplines, including talent acquisition, total rewards, DE&I, learning, and employee relations.
In-depth knowledge of employment law, regulatory compliance, and best practices.
Experience using HR technology and analytics to inform decisions and measure success.
Familiarity with workflow/project management tools (e.g., Wrike or similar) a plus.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree, MBA, or JD preferred.
8–10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including senior-level management roles.
Proven success designing and executing strategic people initiatives that drive organizational performance and culture.
Professional certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Background in the food, consumer goods, or manufacturing industries is highly desirable.
Salary: $170,000 - $180,000/year.
